Bill Hicks is the only comedian to have his entire routine completely cut from the Late Show after taping:
Hicks’ mother, Mary, appeared on the January 30, 2009, episode of Late Show. Letterman played Hicks’s routine in its entirety. Letterman took full responsibility for the original censorship and apologized to Mrs. Hicks.
This is what happened in his own words. Funny: “The United States of Advertising.” “Freedom of expression is guaranteed, if you’ve got the money!”
